Pulling Mussels (From The Shell) by Squeeze

I’ve got a soft spot for Squeeze. I remember sneaking into Wildwood, NJ clubs on Pacific Ave to see them play. Hot, dark, crowded rooms with beer soaked floors and cute tan girls in tank tops makes quite an indelible impression on a young man. Squeeze will always be synonymous with summer for me. And Heather wherever you are - thanks for the kiss.

A day early with a reblog but couldn’t wait. This song is too good. Somehow I completely missed Schwartzman’s solo project. And I’m a huge fan of Phantom Planet. Hot damn. This is like Christmas. I love when that happens with music. And with so much great music being made it seems to happen every single day thanks to some amazing music friends.

Getchoo by Weezer

I love Weezer so damn much and wanted to be Rivers for about 5 years of my life. Complete with the nerd glasses I sported (true). I still remember seeing them in ‘96 at the TLA on South Street in Philly on their opening “rehearsal” tour for Pinkerton. These were the days when you had to see a band live to hear their new material (what!?). When they played this, my jaw dropped. It still is my favorite Weezer song and Pinkerton is easily my favorite Weezer album. What a show and such a great memory for me.

Turn this up and have a great f’ing week.

My friend Sandy and her son Aidan (A-Man!) came to visit yesterday. We were total tourists (I secretly love that) yesterday. We had Patsy’s pizza, ice cream in the park, walked 5th Ave, hit the Top of the Rock, then later had dinner at Landmarc in the Time Warner Center.

How Will We Know? (Futuristic Crashendos) by The Flaming Lips

Gotta hand it to the Lips releasing a four-disc set to be played at the same time on four different players! I still remember trying along with my buddies Ted, Jeff, and Harris via four crappy boom boxes to get this album “sync’d up.” We never quite got it 100% right. We did have a helluva time though and a lot of laughs.

This album isn’t for everywhere, not even Lips fans, but it definitely set the foundation for their later work, especially their seminal record and masterpiece The Soft Bulletin
